I own a short term rental cabin in Big Bear, California. I am a 5 star Airbnb Superhost with over 100 reviews and a 4.92 rating. Everything I am about to share comes from real experience running a real property in one of Southern California's most popular mountain destinations.

Why Big Bear Works for Short Term Rental Investing

Big Bear Lake draws visitors year round. Winter brings skiers and snowboarders to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Summer brings hikers, boaters, and families escaping the heat of the inland valleys. Fall brings leaf peepers and couples looking for mountain getaways. This four season demand is what makes Big Bear one of the strongest short term rental markets in Southern California.

What I Wish I Had Known Before Buying

The biggest lesson I learned is that the property is only part of the investment. The guest experience is the product. Your photos, your listing description, your amenities, your communication, and your response time all determine whether you become a Superhost or struggle to fill your calendar. I invested heavily in the guest experience from day one and it paid off.

The Numbers That Actually Matter

Do not buy a Big Bear property expecting to get rich quickly. The numbers work over time. Your mortgage, property management if applicable, utilities, and maintenance will consume a significant portion of your gross revenue. The real return comes from appreciation, equity building, and the long term income stream that grows as you build your review base and rating.

Big Bear Regulations You Need to Know

Big Bear Lake and the surrounding San Bernardino County areas have specific short term rental regulations including permit requirements, occupancy limits, and noise ordinances. Make sure any property you consider is in a zone that permits short term rentals and that you obtain the proper permits before listing.

How I Help Investors Find the Right Property

As both a Superhost and a licensed realtor I can evaluate a potential Big Bear investment property from both perspectives. I know what guests look for, what amenities drive five star reviews, and what the actual operating numbers look like in different parts of the mountain. If you are considering a Big Bear investment property I am the person to talk to.
